Microbiologist

General Accountability:

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that high quality data is produced in accordance with prescribed methods and standard operating procedures.



Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform microbiological testing to support service offerings in environmental and industrial hygiene applications including Coliform bacteria water and solids analysis, wastewater BOD analysis, other qualitative microbial analyses and various bench chemistry testing.
  • Document activities and report results in a concise and accurate manner according to established requirements.
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of defined areas, keep abreast of state-of-the-art techniques, and drinking water regulatory requirements.
  • Perform all work within specified turnaround times.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and a clean orderly work area at all times.
  • Strong commitment to quality and integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Possess a general knowledge of microbiology fundamentals; ability to understand terminology and principals in order to comply with analytical methods.
  • Possess strong computer skills with knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Word; experience with or ability to learn industry specific software such as our laboratory information management system in a timely manner.
  • Multi-tasked, organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent problem-solving capabilities; will have good time management capabilities and be able to work independently of supervision.
  • Ability to take ownership for meeting goals and objectives; willing to be accountable for own decisions, and willing to give 100%. Able to look for new ways to accomplish objectives.
  • Proficient English verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate well with staff, management and clients in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.





Required Qualifications:

  • 4 Year Bachelor Degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, physical sciences or engineering.
  • Minimum of four college semester hours in general microbiology.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a laboratory environment.

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours
    while working;
  • Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with
    co-workers and managers;
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to handle glassware;
  • Must have average vision and able to see to read labels;
